OUA forms the Black, Biracial and Indigenous (BBI) Task Force

On August 5th, Ontario University Athletics announced the creation of the Black, Biracial and Indigenous (BBI) Task Force. This initiative – led by various executives, coaches and student-athletes within the Ontario sports community- aims to address 5 main areas of improvement within the OUA community. OUA Policy Change, Anti-Racism Training, Racial Violence Rules, Mental Health, and Financial Access have all been identified as areas of improvement by current Task Force Members.

As the first sports conference in Canadian collegiate sports to form a Task Force aimed at addressing racial inequities, the committee sets a strong example of what other U Sports and Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) should follow to ensure there is a point of reference for support and services available to Black and Indigenous People of Colour with the return to education in September 2020.
