Black Canadian Named Strength and Conditioning Coach at Simon Fraser University

Pickering, Ontario: Kris Robertson is a former football athlete turned Canadian Football League (CFL) pro and current functional mobility expert. Born and raised in Pickering Ontario, Kris is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and is currently in the progress of completing his Master’s of Exercise Science at Edith Cowan University. Kris has served as the Strength & Conditioning coach of Canada’s Senior Women’s National 15’s team and the Women’s Rugby Canada Development Academy in Ontario. Recently, he was named the new Head Coach of Strength and Conditioning at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia.

As a football player, Kris was recognized as an award-winning athlete at Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec. He was eventually drafted 11th overall by the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the 2013 CFL Draft. Unfortunately, a knee injury cut short Kris’s professional football career. He soon returned to Concordia, completed his degree, and transitioned into sports science.

Kris is the founder and director of KRT Athletic Development, where he specializes in speed development, load management in high-performance athletes, periodization, planning, programming, and long-term athlete development. He has worked with professional athletes in the NFL, CFL, women’s hockey, and basketball and high-performance athletes across different age groups from a broad spectrum of sports such as soccer, football, hockey, basketball, swimming, judo, and mixed martial arts.

Robertson worked previously as an assistant strength and conditioning coach with the Toronto Argonauts of the CFL, where he was responsible for sport science-related initiatives, rehabbing injured athletes and managing the off-season training program for the 2017 Grey Cup Champion Argos. At Rugby Canada, Kris was responsible for the physical development of the Senior Women’s National 15’s and Women’s Rugby Canada’s Development Academies in Ontario. Here he managed the physical and mental development of elite athletes.

As the Head of Strength and Conditioning Coach at Simon Fraser University, Kris is responsible for the physical development of 17 different male & female varsity teams. Kris officially began his new position on July 2nd, 2021.
