
Toronto, ON: Omar Miles of Humber College and Chad Bewley of Georgian College are both first year coaches that have been honoured as Ontario Colleges Athletics Association (OCAA) Coach of the Year Awards.
Omar Miles is a FIBA certified and NCCP Train to Compete (Level Three) certified coach who has been coaching basketball since 2008 at the high school, club, AAU and provincial team level. In 2014 he was an Assistant Coach for the Edmund Campion women’s basketball team en route to an OFSAA 4A title. In the same year, he led the boys to an OFSAA 4A silver medal. He captured an U12 OBA Division one gold medal coaching Team Breakdown U12 boys, while coaching his own son. In 2019, he helped the U17 Team Ontario boys basketball team garner the silver medal at the national tournament in New Brunswick at Nationals.

Coach Miles played university basketball at Wilfrid Laurier University, graduating in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Geography with a Minor in French. As a rookie, the Mississauga native was named to the OUA’s men’s basketball rookie all-star team.

Chad Bewley of Georgian College is the East Division Coach of the Year. Under Bewley’s first year of stewardship, the Grizzlies were 6-2 during the abbreviated regular season, easily advancing to the post-season.

Prior to his appointment at Georgian, Bewley served as a Development Coach with Basketball Canada’s Senior Men’s National Team. He has also been a head trainer and coach at a number of youth basketball academies and clubs while also serving as an assistant coach with both the Humber Hawks (2017-2020) and York Lions (2012-13) men’s basketball programs.
As a player, Bewley was a member of the Humber Hawks CCAA National Championship team in 2015 and also played with the York University Lions. Coach Chag graduated with a BA in Philosophy from York University and a diploma in Fitness and Health Promotion at Humber College. Following his collegiate career, he went on to play professional basketball in Australia, China, El Salvador and Spain.
